US President Donald Trump is unhappy with how other countries treat the United States, claiming that the world is unfair to America. In a surprising turn, he accused the European Union and China of imposing unfair tariffs on the US for decades.
Starting April 2, 2025, Washington will introduce new tariffs on imported goods, with Trump warning companies that manufacture outside the United States of hefty duties. The American president highlighted that other states, including the EU, China, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Canada, had imposed tariffs on US goods for many years. "Other countries have used tariffs against us for decades, and now it's our turn to start using them against those other countries," Trump complained, highlighting the extreme unfairness of the treatment.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed the trade war with the US, stating that Ottawa had no choice but to hit back at its neighbor. As a result, Canada imposed tariffs on US goods entering the country equal to 25% of their customs value, effective March 4. Trudeau also called the US tariffs a violation of international trade norms.
